What can be a big step regarding solving the problem of fresh water shortage ? Scientists have developed a device that filters salt water a thousand times faster than communally used devices. In manufacturing scale, sea water is made unpolluted through a desalination process. In this process salt is isolate from the water and the remaining water is used for irrigation. In a recent study, scientists have invented a new way to clean salt water faster and more successfully.

Associate Professor Mitsubishi Ito of the University of Tokyo’s Department of Chemistry and Biotechnology and colleagues began their study by exploring the unpolluted of fluorine pipelines at the nano scale. Ito said that we were curious to see how effective the fluoresce in nano channel could be at selectively filtering various compounds, particularly water and salt. After running some compound computer simulations we decided it was worth it to build a working sample.
The team of scientists developed several test samples with nano rings ranging in size from 1 to 2 nanometers. According to Ito, they found that a test sample was working, as it successfully removed the salt molecules from the water. According to Ito, fluorine-based filters not only purify water, but also work several thousand times faster than industrial devices. He said that the carbon nano-tube based devices were also 2,400 times slower than the halon devices. Scientists say that the new technology need less energy to work and is also easier to use.
