1.82 lakh farmers pay income tax but wrongly get assistance of Rs 186 crore in Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana

PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana does not provide assistance to IT payers

Most of the 18,000 farmers in Bhavnagar benefited, all will recover

Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana has received information that about 1.82 lakh farmers in the state have wrongly taken assistance of Rs 186 crore despite paying income tax.  In February 2019, the central government announced a scheme for farmers called 'Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi'.  Under this scheme, farmers with up to two hectares of land will be given Rs.  It was decided to pay the assistance in 6,003 equal installments through 'Direct Benefit Transfer', which was applicable in Gujarat as in other states of the country and soon after the decision was made, four monthly assistance of Rs 2,000 was started in the account of the beneficiary farmers.

More than 1.82 lakh farmers were benefiting

However, some conditions were also imposed in the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana and those involved in these conditions were not eligible for assistance.  One of the key conditions was that "taxpayers who have paid income tax in the last assessment year" were not eligible for this assistance.  However, a large number of farmers who are paying income tax are also availing government assistance, which exploded a month or two ago.  As per the information received, about 1.82 lakh farmers in all the 33 districts of the state were availing the assistance of PM Kisan Samman Nidhi despite paying income tax.  These farmers have received a total of Rs 186 crore from the state exchequer in the state.

The government started the process of getting a refund

The scandal erupted when I saw the portal of Kisan Samman Nidhi and the portal of income tax payer (list of taxpayers).  Thus, such farmers from every district took assistance even though they were ineligible, but the districts with the highest number include more than 18 thousand farmers in Bhavnagar, more than 17 thousand in Amreli, more than 14 thousand in Mehsana and more than 13 thousand in Rajkot.  It is to be mentioned here that till today there is information that 5 to 6 installments of 2 thousand rupees have been paid in the state.  The government has sent SMS to the 'disqualified farmers' who have availed such assistance and has also started the process of 'refunding' the amount paid.

 Although guaranteed
Beneficiary farmers in the scheme had given some guarantees, including admitting that they would have been disqualified in the event of being an ‘income tax payer in the last assessment year’.

He vowed to "be responsible" for any action, including "recovery of benefits" from the government and other legal action, if found to have been misappropriated.
