The 1983 Cricket World Cup was the third edition of the Cricket World Cup. It was held in England and Wales from 9 to 25 June 1983 and was won by India. The event was attended by eight countries. The 1983 World Cup was full of dramatic cricket throughout the tournament. Teams like India and Zimbabwe that were not playing well during that time won against the West Indies and Australia respectively. England, Pakistan, India and tournament favorites West Indies qualified for the semi-finals. The opening match was played in two groups of four teams each, and each country played the other two times in its group. The top two teams from each group qualified for the semi-finals.

Defending 183, India did a good job of keeping an eye on West Indies' run-rate and then Madan Lal dismissed key batsman Vivian Richards (33) to make it 57/3.
Soon, the Caribbean team was reduced to 76/6 and India was the pick from there to win the title. Mohinder Amarnath took the final wicket of Michael Holding and helped India win their first World Cup title.
